This disk contains 24 templates, 5 charts and 2 macro sheets for use with Microsoft Excel version 2.2 for the Apple Macintosh. Earlier versions of Microsoft Excel will not recognize the template files. For information about updating to the current version, call Microsoft Product Support at (206) 454-2030.
WORKSPACE FILES
Page 220 of the accompanying book contains a discussion of how to create Workspace files. A Workspace file is included on the templates disk for the 1040 tax template and all its supporting schedules. By opening the file named “!Workspace 1040,” you will open not only the 1040 file, but also the Money Man Macro Library and Schedules A, B, C, D, and SE. All linked files must be open for the templates to work properly. Feel free to create your own Workspace files for other sets of linked templates.
START CHECKBOOK MACRO SHEET:
The Start Checkbook macro sheet adds a custom menu called Check to the menu bar. You must activate Full Menus to use it; otherwise, it will not be visible.
To close your Check Register, use the Exit Checkbook command, which appears on the custom Check menu when you open the Start Checkbook file. When you use this command, the Check Register file with all your new entries will be saved automatically. If you quit Microsoft Excel rather than using the Exit Checkbook command, click the Cancel button when you see the “Save changes to Start Checkbook?” message, and then use the Exit Checkbook command.
SCREEN FONTS
The templates use the latest formatting features in version 2.2 of Microsoft Excel, such as multiple fonts and font sizes, variable row heights, and shading. The fonts used are Helvetica 9, 12, and 14, which are supplied by Apple on their System software disks. If you do not have these fonts installed in your System, refer to the Font/DA Mover section of your Apple documentation, or contact your Apple dealer for information on obtaining screen fonts.
TEMPLATES
The accompanying book in this package provides documentation for each template. The following is a list of filenames by chapter:
Each template must be in the same folder or on the same disk as any other template to which it is linked. For example, the Start Checkbook and Check Register files are linked. If the two files were in different folders and you tried to open the Start Checkbook file, the macro would return an error message saying that it couldn't find the Check Register file. This could also happen under Multifinder, if you had been working on another Microsoft Excel spreadsheet located in a folder other than the one in which the Money Manager templates are located. If you were to double-click on the Start Checkbook icon from the Desktop, you would likely see the error message mentioned above. Microsoft Excel remembers the last folder you opened with the File Open command, and if you circumvent the File Open command by double-clicking from the Desktop while Microsoft Excel is running under Multifinder, the previous folder will still be active in Microsoft Excel’s File Open dialog box. Thus, the macro will not be able to find the Check Register file because the macro uses the File Open command, which is still set to the folder you were using prevoiusly. To be safe, always open linked files from within Microsoft Excel and keep them together in the same folder.
The following list indicates the linked files in the template set. these linked files should always stay together in the same folders.
1040—Schedules A, B, C, D, SE, Money Man Macro Library
1040A—Schedule 1, Money Man Macro Library
1040EZ—Money Man Macro Library
Schedule 1—1040A
Schedule A—1040
Schedule D—1040
Adj. Rate Balances Chart—Adj. Rate Amortization
Adj. Rate Payments Chart—Adj. Rate Amortization
Fixed Rate Balances Chart—Fixed Rate Amortization
Fixed Rate Payments Chart—Fixed Rate Amortization
Start Checkbook—Check Register
Life Insurance—Money Man Macro Library
Future Savings Chart—Saving For the Future
Saving For The Future—Money Man Macro Library
Note that there is a three-step link between Future Savings Chart, Saving For The Future, and Money Man Macro Library. The chart file depends on the Saving For The Future template, which depends on the Money Man Macro Library.
The easiest way to avoid problems is simply to keep all the template files in the same folder on your hard drive or on the same floppy disk.
BACKUP COPIES
Before you use any of these templates, copy the files on this disk to another floppy disk or to your hard disk. Then put this original disk in a safe place.
PROTECTION
Most of these templates are locked using the Options Protect Document command. To make modifications to the templates (other than entry of necessary data for the normal functioning of the template), you must first unprotect the document by choosing the Options Unprotect Document command. You must activate Full Menus to use the Options Protect Document and Options Unprotect Document commands.
